After spending time in Alaska looking for gold and a stint playing cornet with the Royal Hawaiian Band in Hawaii, Jesse returned home broke. With his sister Blanche he turned to vaudeville, starting with a duo-cornet act which led to producing high-class musical vaudeville acts in New York.
